Your instructor

Q: How will I know my instructor is fully qualified?
A: A driving instructor must display his or her Approved Driving Instructors badge in the windscreen of the vehicle. A green badge shows that they are fully qualified; a pink badge means that they are still training.

However, Magnum only uses fully qualified, part three-approved instructors.

Q: Can I have the same instructor for all my lessons?
A: Yes.

Q: Will my instructor smoke during my lesson?
A: No. Magnum’s instructors are not allowed to smoke during lessons.

Your lessons

Q: How long do Iessons last?
A: Your instructor will pick you up at the time you have arranged and you will have 60 minutes of tuition.

Q: Can I book a two-hour lesson?
A: You may book a two-hour session if you wish.

Q: Do lessons in the evening and at weekends cost the same as in the daytime?
A: No. Magnum charge slightly more for evening and weekend lessons. Click here to see our prices.

Q: Can I get picked up and dropped off at different addresses?
A: Yes, although it is best to make these arrangements with your instructor before your lesson starts.

Q: How many lessons will I need?
A: This depends. The DSA suggests that you are most likely to pass your practical test having spent around 40 hours of lessons with a driving professional plus additional practice. The number of lessons you need can depend on the frequency and length of lessons, how quickly you learn and how much extra practice you get. Your instructor will advise you when you're ready to apply for your test.

Q: Do you teach intensive courses?
A: We don't usually offer intensive courses, but speak to your instructor about your needs. It may be possible to book several lessons during a week, particularly when your test is imminent.

Q: I'm really nervous about learning to drive. Would you advise me to try a driving simulator first?
A: There’s no substitute for real, behind-the-wheel, practice. It is perfectly normal to be nervous about learning to drive. Our instructors are confident and experienced and will teach you at a pace at which you are comfortable. You can spend time learning to drive in a quiet area before driving in heavier traffic, for example. In addition, all our cars are dual-controlled vehicles.

Q: Do you offer Pass Plus?
A: We do. If you've passed your test but want to extend your skills, Pass Plus may be for you. Pass Plus is a further driving course offering at least 6 hours’ tuition covering more challenging driving conditions than you may have encountered when learning to drive. For more information about Pass Plus, please click here.

Q: How do I book the practical and theory tests?
A: You can book your tests online.

Q: Can you help me prepare for my theory/Hazard Perception Test?
A: Yes. Our instructors can help you prepare for your theory/hazard perception test. The DSA also has an online mock test.
